Lucite is another favorite element in mixing styles. Apartment Therapy has a great write up of why a clear coffee table is a savvy solution in a small space:

A small introduction to lucite: these darling letters from Tory Burch, would be so charming on your work desk or in a childs room.

A really well done example of the mix factor:
This designer uses the Vapor stool from CB2. http://www.cb2.com/vapor-barstools/f4967
I'll definitely be using these for a future project and potentially my own kitchen.
And last but certainly not least, I'll always love the Louis...
XOXO!

The Modern Mix: Mixing in Brass and Bronze
How hot is this sofa? I'm dying. The Tuxedo Sofa at Design Within Reach has sexy long bronze legs.

Since I live in an older home, I would pair it with this a chic little accent table, at a great price. I'm thinking of snatching up a couple of these to place next to a reading chair. They will add a touch of warmth to the space...

Shy about metal mixing? Try the low investment of an IKEA ANEGENAM bowl. I would use a couple of these on a coffee table so you notice the subtle bling when you walk by.

Chic N Cheap living talks about it here:

And finally, for my ultimate fantasy mix, I would add a pair of these to the patio:

These Brown Jordan pieces are instant classics. And the shape is modern enough to keep me happy.
Blanc is the new Black, or my Favorite Color is White
For the past 15 years, I have collected white objects, like vases, bowls, and other household oddities. Vintage lamps, too.
This Moon Glow Table Lamp - BBL3006 from Circa Lighting is a contender for bedside lamps.
My white vase collection sits in glass doored dark wood cabinets, so they stand out. Can you tell I have a photography background? It's all about the composition.
I prefer artwork framed in white. I would have all white walls but my family complains they want color, so the walls are (light) gray. I remember when I had my first apartment, it was hard to find simple white plates, I was on a mission for these for months.
For our wedding we registered for mainly white serving dishes, along with a few special crystal glasses. My husband says he doesn't remember what we registered for, it was all a blur to him, he didn't really know what he wanted or what we needed. His policy at all weddings is a gift of cash (such a practical guy). So years later, when we are entertaining and he notices the serving plates are all coordinated, and the vase yet to be filled with flowers is the perfect blank slate for whatever flowers we chose, I smile and tell him, yes, I planned this.

Color Harmony
A screen shot from Mad Men "Souvenir" episode. I love the blue glasses and green bottle in this scene, set in a mid 60's hotel room in Italy.
